lunchtime vigil for the environment #1 - Central Victoria calls on Labor MPs to Rise Up and say YES to the environment and NO to new coal and fossil gas

We have just sweltered through another summer of extreme weather events, yet the Albanese Government, elected on a platform of climate action, continues to approve massive new coal and gas mining projects, key drivers of climate change.

Rise Up with us to Turn Up the Heat on Labor to demand that all levels of government put climate action ahead of fossil fuel company profits.

When politics fails, community leadership must take its place:

  • We see hope in First Nations communities fighting to protect Country from new coal and gas projects.
  • We see hope in our Pacific Island neighbours calling for no new coal and gas projects,
  • We see hope in renewable energy growth, ending our dependence on fossil fuels,
  • We see hope in community members supporting each other to combat disastrous fires and floods brought on by fossil fuel driven global heating.

We will Rise Up to Turn Up the Heat on Labor, proving to our elected representatives that community action can counter the influence of coal and gas interests with sustained and creative action until community gets the political leadership it deserves.

Join in our campaign of daily vigils for the environment, reaching out to our MP, Lisa Chesters to:

  • Call on the Albanese Government to end its support for new fossil fuel projects.
  • Demand immediate action to fast-track proposed upgrades to the EPBC Act to:
    • extend protection of vital water resources from irreversible damage from fracking for shale gas,
    • consider the impacts of climate change by including a 'climate trigger' to allow refusal of fossil fuel projects if their full climate impact, including scope 3 emissions will harm Australia's natural environment.

Join us outside Federal MP for Bendigo, Lisa Chesters Electorate Office (16 Myers Street, Bendigo) during our 12 days of action 29 April - 10 May.

Bring a placard, flag or banner with your personal message or use one of our placards.
All ages are welcome, and we'll be encouraging positive interaction with those we encounter.

Please join us on Monday 29 April at the first lunchtime vigil for the environment of our Rise Up 12 Days of Action campaign for Climate Justice and a Fossil Fuel Free Future.

Note:   This RSVP is for the 29 April event only.  Please RSVP separately for each Rise Up Central Victoria event in which you wish to participate.
