NAB Give Whitehaven Coal the Boot
My name is Joey, I’m 15 years old and I am a student striker from School Strike 4 Climate.
I love sports. I play basketball, and love watching the AFL with my family. But, I’m worried that as the climate heats up, playing the sports that I love will become more dangerous.
I strike from school and work hard around school to run national campaigns to stop fossil fuel expansion because I want to protect the things I love- including playing sport. For too long, coal companies - and the banks which fund them - have been profiting at the expense of my future.
Whose team is NAB really on?
SS4C, together with Move Beyond Coal, is calling on NAB to stop funding companies building new coal mines, like Whitehaven Coal, are putting our futures at risk. Whitehaven is planning to DOUBLE its coal production by 2030 when the science is clear- we must rapidly reduce the use of fossil fuels. NAB, give Whitehaven Coal the boot.
NAB has loaned hundreds of millions of dollars to Whitehaven Coal. What’s more, in the few years between 2016 to 2020, NAB has lent $9.5 BILLION to fossil fuel companies.
Add your voice to the call for NAB to pick the winning side and stop funding Whitehaven Coal.

NAB Staff Webinar: Why NAB should end it's relationship with Whitehaven Coal
Join financial experts and frontline speakers for an anonymous webinar for NAB staff.
Since 2016 NAB have loaned hundreds of millions of dollars to Whitehaven, including most recently a loan of $110 million in 2020. Whitehaven is planning to spend almost $4 billion on developing 4 new coal mines, and we know they will need finance. Whitehaven Coal want to renew their loan with NAB by the middle of the year and are more than likely currently in talks with NAB to renew their corporate loan.
If you are a NAB staff member, you can be an incredibly powerful force for change within your organisation to stop further investment in climate-wrecking coal.
Join the webinar to hear more about:
- Whitehaven Coal's expansion plans and the potential climate and land impacts
- The policy change that would align NAB more closely with international banks and close the loophole on further investment in companies expanding thermal coal
- The ways, as a NAB staff member, you can contribute to assisting NAB to do the right thing
