Late last night Environment Minister Plibersek approved three thermal coal mine expansions that will turbocharge the climate crisis by locking in 1.5 billion tonnes of carbon pollution - this is more than three times Australia’s total annual emissions.
It’s outrageous.
Labor is trying to hide their ongoing support for fossil fuels by announcing these approvals late in the day during a week of footy finals fever. Right now, we need to make sure we expose Labor’s support for coal and demonstrate that the community won’t stop holding them to account on their commitment to act on the climate crisis.
Join a SNAP action at Kate Thwaite's office to say: it’s time for Labor to kick a climate goal and STOP approving climate wrecking coal mines!
WHEN: Wednesday 25th September, 2.00-2.40pm
WHERE: Federal Member for JagaJaga - Kate Thwaite's office: 2/37 Burgundy Street, Heidelberg, VIC, 3084
BRING: Your mates and your placards!
Actions are also happening at the Prime Minister and Environment Minister's office in Sydney, and we’ll be inviting the media along to ensure any media stories that run tomorrow also cover community protests in response to this disastrous decision.
