It’s official: the Albanese Labor Government has broken its promise to overhaul Australia’s outdated and ineffective environment laws.
Despite being elected on a mandate of climate ambition, the Albanese Labor Government has shown us time and again that they are more afraid of upsetting the mining industry’s profits, than they are of condemning our communities to a fossil-fuelled future of climate disasters.
We won’t see reformed environmental laws before the next Federal Election. What we will see is more coal and gas approvals.
Just last month, under the cover of footy finals fever, Plibersek approved three new large coal mining projects in NSW: Whitehaven Coal’s Narrabri coal project to 2066, MACH Energy’s Mount Pleasant coal project to 2058, and Yancoal’s Ashton coal project to 2064.
With no protections against climate impacts in our environment laws, more approvals will be incoming. That is guaranteed.
Join our snap webinar next Tuesday night to find out what’s next for the movement to end coal and gas.
