Koalas not coal - a call for climate action

Join us for an afternoon to send a message to government that we need to stop new coal and gas projects .

We need meaningful climate action if we are to stop the demise of our reef, our iconic threatened species like the koala and to protect our lifestyle from the ever increasing severe fires, droughts and floods.

The aim is to get a group photo with lots of placards and banners to show our support for climate action to share through media, Move Beyond Coal and the Queensland and Australian Governments.

What we will be doing:

  • There will be opportunities to have your photo taken with a koala and a dugong
  • We will have a display with information about the work our local community is doing to tackle coal, gas and climate change
  • We'll have a few nibbles on hand (but please feel free to bring your own drinks and a plate to share)
  • And, most importantly, a chance for everyone concerned about the climate change impacts being experienced across the globe to come together and be a voice for our local environment.

It is a family friendly event, so please bring the family and your friends along!  Limited seating is available, so please also bring a chair or a picnic rug.

We may also be able to share a recently released report about the impact of coal mines on our endangered koalas in the Bowen Basin - more detail to come.  A koala will arrive anyway!
