We’ve just lived through the hottest year on record, with a summer of floods, cyclones and extreme heat. The climate crisis is here today.
This year, the Australian Government promised to fix our environment laws, the laws that are supposed to protect our environment. But currently the changes Labor are suggesting completely ignore the climate damage caused by coal and gas.
Australia’s environment laws are currently not fit to deal with the climate crisis. Since the Coalition brought them in 25 years ago, 740 coal and gas projects have been approved under these laws. That’s 99% of all new fossil fuel proposals.
Environment laws that ignore climate change do not protect the people and places we love - they protect the mining industry and fuel climate chaos. But right now, we have a once in a generation chance to fix that and stop the expansion of more coal and gas.
Will you sign this petition calling on Prime Minister Anthony Albanese and Environment Minister Tanya Plibersek to put a climate trigger in our environment laws, protect community rights to review projects near them and stop approving new climate-wrecking coal and gas projects?
