Federal Labor was elected by us at the last election for their promises to act on climate change and fix our environment laws - which included adding a climate impact assessment for every project requiring government approval to proceed. That promise has now been broken with the recently announced fragmentation of the review and indefinite deferral of the desperately needed environmental reforms of the EPBC.
In short, Labor have caved in to the lobbying from the mining industry. We need to demonstrate that our community are outraged by the broken promise. An alliance between 350, ACF, AYCC, Move Beyond Coal and Get-Up are calling on us to take action and make some noise during the Rise Up 12 Days of Action 28th April -10th May.
So Rise Up Dunkley!! We are calling on you to join us at Jodie's office to show that we have noticed and will hold her to their promises.
We will meet peacefully outside her office with banners / placards to show we are not happy with the business as usual approach the Labor government is adopting around coal and gas, and the lack of urgency in a climate that we can see is changing with the increasing heat, heatwaves, deluges, inundations, land destruction and bushfires, especially with having the hottest year on record last year globally.
A small delegation will deliver our Letter to the office as we have been unable to secure a personal meeting with Jodie to-date.
We will be taking photos of the letter delivery and the gathered people for social media and visibility.
There are similar actions planned for our State MP offices in Carrum, Frankston and Somerville.
Please RSVP if you can attend.
Our team acknowledge the Traditional Custodians of the land on which we meet and work, We pay respect to Elders past, present, and emerging and acknowledge the important role all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people continue to play within our community.
